Z fold 8: design masterpiece with a tiny, persistent flaw

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 has landed, and frankly, the initial impression is one of remarkable refinement. The phone feels astonishingly light for its size, a significant step up from the bulkier Z Fold generations. The wider aspect ratio is actually quite intuitive – it’s a natural fit for web browsing and video consumption, offering a genuinely superior experience compared to traditional smartphones.

The design speaks volumes

The phone also wobbles slightly when placed on a flat surface, a minor detail that highlights the engineering challenges inherent in this design.

Software & features

The Z Fold 8 launches with Android 17 and Samsung’s One UI 9. The interface is intuitive and polished. The larger screen is exceptionally well-suited for multitasking and productivity – the ability to run multiple apps side-by-side is genuinely transformative. It's a device that demands your attention, but one that rewards it with a level of usability simply not found on traditional smartphones.

The verdict

Despite this lingering crease, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 represents a substantial leap forward. Samsung has refined the folding form factor to an almost unsettling degree.
