He anticipates a noticeable improvement in video calls – think sharper resolution, lower latency – and a fundamental shift in gaming, with lag and jitter practically vanishing.
nBut it's more than just speed. Kapoor highlighted Network Slicing as a cornerstone of the Technology. This allows T-Mobile to dynamically allocate network resources, prioritizing bandwidth for specific applications. Consider Twitch gaming: a tower can automatically direct a user’s connection to a ‘gaming slice’ – L4S – ensuring a consistently smooth experience, even during peak hours.
nAnd here’s the kicker: this enhanced performance is available to all T-Mobile customers, without a single cent added to their bill. That’s a shrewd move in a market increasingly sensitive to hidden costs.

Redcap and the internet of things
nBeyond the consumer experience, 5G Advanced’s capabilities extend to the business world. The rollout of RedCap – Reduced Capability – is proving especially transformative. This feature enables manufacturers to use cheaper, lower-power modems in devices like smartwatches and AR headsets, slashing power consumption by up to 65% – and driving down costs.
nWe’re talking about a 20MHz bandwidth instead of 100MHz+, utilizing just one or two antennas instead of four. That’s enough speed for a smartwatch to operate efficiently without draining its battery, and it dramatically expands the potential of connected devices.
nApple iPhone models, for example, are already seeing a 48% to 50% performance boost on T-Mobile’s SA 5G network – thanks to Carrier Aggregation, which combines up to six wireless lanes for significantly increased data throughput.
