Spanish students caught cheating with smart glasses

A new wave of academic dishonesty has emerged in Spain as students exploit smart glasses to cheat on exams.

High-tech cheating: a growing concern

Provincial traffic authorities in La Rioja and the Guardia Civil have confirmed the alarming trend of aspirants using the devices to transmit images during theory tests for driving licenses.

With prices ranging from €1,300 to €2,500, the smart glasses allow students to capture the exam screen without drawing attention, then send the images in real-time to an outside helper who dictates the correct answers via an earpiece.

Some enterprising students have even programmed the glasses to display notifications from apps like WhatsApp, enabling their accomplices to simply type out the responses.

Exam supervisors at the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) have stepped up routine checks at locations in Logroño and Calahorra, identifying and sanctioning 20 individuals aged 24-59 since January.
