Samsung's galaxy z fold 8: a promising start for foldables

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 marks a crucial milestone for Samsung's foldable ambitions, offering a compelling package that addresses some of the initial generation's drawbacks.

Revamped design, refined user experience

Samsung has finally nailed the aspect ratio, opting for a 4:3 unfolded display that makes sense for modern web consumption.

This change is particularly noticeable when browsing, watching videos, or engaging with social media, where the more rectangular shape feels more intuitive.

But the real test lies in battery life, an area where the first foldables faltered. After 72 hours of intensive use, I found the Fold 8 to still have around 20% juice remaining, a respectable endurance for such a thin device.

My usage patterns included social media, email, and web browsing, with screen time reaching 4 hours and 53 minutes, devouring 82% of the battery. This translates to roughly 5.5 hours of screen-on time per full charge.

While not quite matching the S26 Ultra's 7-hour battery life, the Fold 8 slots comfortably between the iPhone 17 Pro's 5.2 hours and the S26 Ultra's 7 hours, offering a solid balance between portability and endurance.

Fast 45-watt charging is also a welcome addition, allowing for quick top-ups. As Samsung continues to refine its foldable tech, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 shows promising signs of meeting the market's demands.
