Samsung Reports Strong Galaxy Z Fold 8 Series Pre-Orders, Cheaper Model Leads the Way
Samsung has announced
that pre-orders for its Galaxy Z Fold 8 series are up more than 30% globally compared to the previous generation. In the United States, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is driving nearly half of all pre-orders, even before Apple's anticipated foldable iPhone release.Key Pre-Order Highlights
According to Samsung's data from the first 12 days of US pre-orders:
- The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series is on track for the highest Z series pre-order totals ever.
- The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are 30% ahead of the previous record-holding Fold generation.
- The Galaxy Z Fold 8 accounts for almost half of all pre-orders across carriers and retailers.
- The number of Flip owners upgrading to a Fold has tripled compared to the last generation.
- Approximately one in four buyers also pre-ordered a new Galaxy watch.
Samsung attributes this success to the redefined form factor of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, attracting a broader audience and solidifying its position in the mainstream market. The company anticipates the global foldable market to grow by more than 20% year-over-year, exceeding double its current size by 2028.
Color preferences varied; Graphite was most popular for both Fold models globally, while Pink led for the Flip 8. Among Samsung.com buyers aged 15 to 34, exclusive colors like Green Shadow, Pistachio, and Mint were favored.
Interestingly, the wider and more affordable Galaxy Z Fold 8 has outsold the premium Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, with the Lavender color already sold out on Samsung.com. Its lighter weight (201g) may be a key factor for first-time foldable buyers.
Samsung is also seeing a significant conversion from Galaxy Z Flip 7 owners, with upgrades to the Fold series tripling.
