Microsoft unveils screen tint for visual comfort in windows 11

Microsoft has quietly introduced a new feature in the latest Windows 11 preview builds designed to enhance visual comfort for users. Dubbed Screen Tint, this functionality was spotted in the latest beta releases, along with other changes including improvements to Windows Update.

Screen tint: a color layer to combat eye fatigue

Unlike the Night Light feature, which only applies a warm, yellowish tone, Screen Tint offers a much broader range of options. The new tool allows users to choose from various color filters designed for different needs.

For instance, the soft amber tone is intended for prolonged computer use, while a pinkish hue aims to reduce potential migraine triggers and sensitivity to fluorescent lights. Other filters include a gentle yellow that aids readability and reduces visual stress, a cool blue to combat glare in extremely bright environments, and a subtle green that may help those suffering from photophobia. A natural gray mode is also included for those who find the high contrast between black and white exhausting.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Screen Tint is its personalization capabilities. It not only offers these six predefined modes but also includes a 'custom tint' option, allowing users to adjust the color to their liking. A slider control is also provided to modify the intensity of the filter, enabling adaptation to various situations.

Although still not available to the general public, Screen Tint is expected to be integrated into the accessibility section of the system, alongside other features such as color filters, high-contrast themes, and zoom.
