Microsoft shifts focus back to native windows apps

After a recent acknowledgement of its past missteps, Microsoft is reportedly making a U-turn, prioritizing native Windows apps once again in Windows 11. This move reflects a strategic pivot, one that experts see as a nod to Apple's long-held approach to native app development.

Native apps gain prominence

Microsoft's decision to favor native apps comes after years of experimentation with web-based applications and Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). While these offer ease of development, cross-platform compatibility, and faster updates, they often compromise on performance, integration, and overall user experience on Windows 11.

By creating a new team focused on native app development, Microsoft aims to leave behind 'web wrappers' and deliver more seamless, high-performance experiences. Rudy Huyn, a key figure in this initiative, emphasized the importance of customer-centricity and solid product vision in driving this effort forward.

However, this shift won't happen overnight. Existing apps will continue to function as usual for a considerable time, and external developers aren't obligated to follow Microsoft's new direction. Yet, the company's renewed focus on native apps suggests a commitment to delivering the best possible Windows experience.
