This change is a direct result of the September 9th unveiling falling shortly after the anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max Launch Details

Traditionally, Apple launches new iPhones for pre-order on Fridays following their announcement. However, given the sensitivity of the date, Apple is anticipated to make an exception. The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max will be officially unveiled on September 9th, with pre-orders slated to begin on September 12th.

This isn't a significant delay for eager customers, as the pre-order start time is tipped to be midnight Pacific Time on September 12th, a mere 24-hour difference compared to the usual 5 am Friday start. It's worth noting that Apple last shifted the pre-order date to a Saturday in 2015 for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, for the same reason.
