Google's next-generation Pixel 11 series, set to launch on August 12, is poised to make a significant change with its Tensor G6 chipset. The tech giant is reportedly ditching Samsung's Exynos modem in favor of a MediaTek component, a move that could lead to improved battery life for these devices.

A recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold has confirmed the switch to MediaTek, with the specific modem likely to be the M90. This modem utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to offer enhanced performance and, more importantly, better power efficiency.
Mediatek's M90 modem, announced last year, boasts dual 5G SIM dual-active support with dual data capabilities, and up to 12Gbps downlink performance. If integrated into the Tensor G6, it could provide a noticeable boost to the Pixel 11's battery life.
Google is also rumored to be using TSMC's 2nm process node for the Tensor G6, which is expected to feature seven cores instead of the more common six or eight. This could further contribute to improved efficiency and battery life, although the phones may not come with significantly larger cells than their predecessors.
In his in-depth reviews of the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10, my colleague Mariyan found the battery life to be better than the Pixel 9 Pro, but still not great. Victor's review of the Pixel 10 noted some improvements over the base Pixel 9, though the phone struggled under heavy load. Any enhancement would thus be welcomed on that front.
