Google overhauls gemini app with bold visual revamp

Google is poised to dramatically revamp its Gemini app for Android, introducing a vibrant new interface that promises to enhance both design and user experience. While the update hasn't yet rolled out officially, it's already been spotted in internal app versions.

Color scheme shift

The most striking change is a radical overhaul of colors. Gemini's current predominantly flat palette will give way to a bolder, more saturated scheme with deeper blues and subtle gradients. Even Dark Mode will undergo a makeover, swapping its stark black background for a softer, more distinct aesthetic.

Icon reboot

Google is also testing a complete redesign of the app's icons, which will be cleaner, more minimalist, and aimed at improving visual clarity and reducing screen saturation. These tweaks align with the company's broader efforts to refine its design language.

Lateral menu expansion

The app's side menu will expand to fill the screen when opened, up from its current limited size. The menu's structure will also be reorganized, with icons more neatly arranged and options presented in a clearer hierarchy.

Chat screen enhancements

In the chat main screen, new action buttons will be introduced for starting a new conversation or sharing content. The account selector might also be relocated to the bottom of the side menu.

Gemini live gets a facelift

The Gemini Live feature will receive new backgrounds tied to the app's light and dark modes, as well as a redesigned primary button inspired by voice assistant designs from competitors.

While these changes are still unconfirmed for the final release, they point to a clear direction: making Gemini more visually appealing, modern, and user-friendly. However, as often happens with internal testing, not all detected elements may make it into the final version.
