Digi bleeds spain’s telecom giants dry with €13 bare-bone plans
While Vodafone and Orange were busy re-branding power-point slides, digi stole 784 000 Spanish lines in 2025 alone. Two out of every three new DIGI customers walked away from MásOrange, the fusion meant to dominate the market. The Romanian discounter now sits fourth in the league table, breathing down Vodafone’s neck and laughing all the way to the bank.
Másorange bleeds 530 000 subscribers in twelve months
The math is brutal: MásOrange lost 3,6 times more lines to DIGI than Vodafone did. The orange-and-pink conglomerate tried to hide behind its low-cost offspring—Yoigo, Pepephone, Simyo, Lebara—but the umbrella strategy backfired. Each sub-brand is another door DIGI can kick in with a €13 fiber-and-mobile bundle that fits on a napkin.
Vodafone, fresh out of Zegona’s hands, shed 148 000 lines. Telefónica escaped with a scratch: 67 000 exits between Movistar and O2, barely 8,5 % of DIGI’s haul. The incumbents keep pitching “premium experience”; DIGI answers with a one-page contract and a SIM that costs less than a beer.

Price war ends in trench warfare
Spain’s ARPU darling, Movistar, still squeezes €90 a month from loyal abuelos who refuse to learn new remote controls. DIGI doesn’t care about ARPU; it scales on volume and razor-thin margins. O2 tried to fight fire with fire, freezing its dual-offer at €35, yet the move looks like bringing a water pistol to a drone strike.
Operators keep repeating the mantra that “customers value convergence.” The churn sheets say otherwise: 530 000 Spaniards value thirteen euros.

What happens when the fourth becomes the third?
Next reporting quarter Vodafone holds a 310 000-line cushion for third place. At DIGI’s current clip that buffer evaporates by autumn. Once the podium cracks, the wholesale market wobles: less volume means worse unit economics for everyone left, and DIGI’s Romanian parent has already proved it can live on crumbs.
MásOrange promised synergies, 5G muscle, and a TV bundle nobody asked for. DIGI delivered a cheap pipe. The scoreboard does not lie.
