Qualcomm's Snapdragon Price Hike to Hit Samsung's Galaxy S27 Series and Other Android Phones

Qualcomm, the leading provider of mobile processors, is raising prices for its Snapdragon chips by double-digit percentages, according to Bloomberg. This move will significantly impact Samsung, which relies heavily on Qualcomm's technology for its high-end Android devices, including the upcoming Galaxy S27 series.

Supply Chain Headaches Contribute to Price Increases

The price hike comes as the global semiconductor industry grapples with shortages and production bottlenecks. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which manufactures Qualcomm's chips, is struggling to meet demand. This shortage will likely continue for some time, driving up costs for Qualcomm and ultimately for consumers.

As a result, Samsung's Galaxy S27 series, including the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8, may see price increases. The Galaxy S27 Ultra, in particular, could face a significant bump, given its already premium starting price of $1,299.99.

Qualcomm's next-generation flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, was already expected to be more expensive than its predecessor. With the current supply chain issues, the price per unit could easily surpass $300.

Other Android phone makers, including Apple and Google, have already announced price hikes due to the memory crunch. This suggests that the Galaxy S27 series may not be the only device affected by Qualcomm's decision to raise chip prices.
