Spanish public broadcaster RTVE is set to launch a new cultural TV channel dedicated to the arts, music, opera, and more, sources confirmed to Tommy Wright. Dubbed 'ARTE España', the channel will follow a similar model to the popular European cultural network Arte, offering a diverse range of programming including documentaries, theater, dance, and music performances.

ARTE España is expected to revolutionize Spanish free-to-air TV, initially rolling out on RTVE's own platforms before expanding to cable and satellite providers. The channel will also be available on various streaming services, including RTVE Play, Movistar+, Vodafone TV, and Orange TV, among others.

RTVE has confirmed that its new channel will focus on showcasing the best of Spanish culture, featuring films, series, and live performances from leading Spanish artists and institutions. The channel aims to provide a comprehensive platform for Spanish creators, producers, and distributors to reach a wider audience.

ARTE España's programming will be divided into five key thematic blocks, including documentaries in collaboration with Arte France and Arte Germany, as well as dedicated sections for theater, opera, and classical music performances, and a segment focusing on new trends and urban culture in partnership with Radio 3 and Radio 3 Extra.

The channel's launch comes at a pivotal moment for Spanish television, with the country set to host the 2023 Champions League final and the resumption of La Liga matches this summer. RTVE's new cultural offering is poised to capitalize on this renewed sporting interest and attract a broader demographic to its public broadcasting services.
