Movistar plus+ ditches 9 sports channels amidst disney channel revival

In a surprising move, Movistar Plus+ has bid farewell to nine sports channels, including the Golf 2 channel which will disappear permanently. The OTT platform has revamped its sports programming to make room for new additions.

Sports channels temporarily removed

Movistar Plus+ has temporarily closed eight sports channels, which will return with the 2026/27 Champions League season. These channels include Liga de Campeones 6 to 13, all accessible via dials 182 to 189.

The operator's focus is shifting ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with all matches available to subscribers holding the Deportes Total package, thanks to an agreement with DAZN. This will provide access to 104 matches across 48 countries, including open-air and Spanish selection games.

New sports channels on the horizon

Movistar Plus+ is gearing up for a radical transformation in its sports lineup. Two new Baloncesto por M+ channels are set to launch, offering basketball enthusiasts fresh content.

However, the golf-loving community will mourn the loss of Golf 2, which has been a staple on the platform for three years. The channel's permanent disappearance suggests that Movistar has reevaluated its strategy, opting instead for Golf by M+ on dial 67, which is included in the Deportes Total package.
